Tennessee State Flag

Tennessee State Flag was adopted in 1905. Tennessee state flag was designed by Colonel LeRoy Reeves from Tennessee National Guard. In 1905, he replaced the former flag with three slanted tricolor bands. The three stars in the middle band represent the three “Grand Divisions” of the East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and West Tennessee. The reason for the blue vertical bar at the right was to make it unique and relieve the sameness of the red background. Some vexillologists have found links between Reeves’ flag and the Confederate battle flag.
